How do you grow a private client base as a VTC driver?

Once you have your first regular passengers, a private client base grows mostly through businesses that book often (hotels, companies, concierge services), local search on Google and referrals from the clients you already have. Whichever you pick, people need a simple way to book you, and you need to reply fast.

Where do you start when you already have a few clients?

Your first private clients almost always come from your car: passengers who asked how to reach you again (see How do I find private clients as a VTC or private-hire driver?). To go further, pick one of the channels below and stick with it for a month before opening another. Two channels half done bring in less than one done properly.

How do you work with hotels and companies?

A hotel, firm or agency that books rides every week is worth dozens of one-off passengers. Most of the work is legwork.

Start by listing ten or so addresses in your area: hotels with no shuttle, law or consulting firms, clinics, event agencies, concierge services. Drop by at a quiet hour (mid-afternoon, not when guests are checking in), introduce yourself at the front desk and leave a card with a one-line offer, something like "Fixed-price airport transfers, book by WhatsApp."

Then ask who actually books the rides. It is rarely the person behind the desk, so write their name down. Two weeks later, follow up with a short message, your link and your price for the trip they ask for most.

A company expects an invoice in its name, with your legal details, the same day. Have it ready from the first ride.

Some hotels or concierge services ask for a commission to recommend you. Nothing requires it. If you accept, put it in writing before the first ride.

How do you show up on Google when someone looks for a driver?

Passengers type "private driver Bordeaux" or "VTC Gare de Lyon". A Google Business Profile is free, and it is often what comes up first.

  • Set it up as a service-area business, so you list the area you serve without showing your address.
  • Pick the category closest to what you do, for example "Chauffeur service".
  • Add real photos of your car, your main services, the link to your page and your WhatsApp number.
  • Ask every happy client for a review. A recent, specific one ("there before time for my daughter's wedding, spotless car") counts for more than a star rating.

How do you get clients to recommend you?

Referrals are the most profitable channel, because the trust is already there when the new client calls.

The simplest move is to ask plainly at the end of a good ride: "If a colleague ever needs a driver, I'm here." Hand over two cards instead of one, the second being for someone else. And send a link that is easy to forward, since a WhatsApp message with your page gets passed on in one tap.

Thank whoever sent someone your way, with a word or something off their next ride.

How do you know which channel works?

Ask every new client: "How did you find me?" Write the answer next to their name and their rides for the month. After three months, you'll know where your time is best spent.

What do you need to track and grow your client base?

Free tools are enough to start: a Google Business Profile, WhatsApp Business and a spreadsheet to keep track of your clients. A general website builder (Wix, WordPress and so on) is an option if you want to build it yourself.

Chauffeur Pro gives VTC and private-hire drivers a website, a QR code and business cards so their passengers book them direct, with no commission. The same page works for your Google profile, your card and your WhatsApp message, and the count of scans and contacts shows what works. Chauffeur Pro is not affiliated with any ride-hailing app.

Frequently asked questions

Should you pay hotels a commission for recommending you?

Nothing requires it. Some hotels and concierge services ask for one, others don't. If you accept, set the amount in writing before the first ride and build it into your price.

Is a Google Business Profile useful for a VTC driver?

Yes. It is free, it shows up when a passenger looks for a driver in your town, and it can list the area you serve without showing your address. Recent reviews from real clients are what make it credible.

How long does it take to build a regular private client base?

There is no reliable figure. What really helps is working one channel every week, replying fast to requests and quoting a price in advance for the trips people book often.

Can you offer your services to Uber or Bolt passengers?

Not during a ride ordered through the app: its terms apply. If a passenger asks for your card for a future booking, you can hand it over, as long as the app's terms allow it.
